The children's code is the official title of chapter 48 of the statutes as revised. The revision, which goes into effect on July 1, 1956, is generally regarded as one of the important achievements of the 1955 legislative session. It was one of two enactments of which the governor said in a message to the legislature: "I am frank to say that had this legislature done no more than enact [these] two bills . . . it could have adjourned with a feeling of pride and satisfaction."'
