At its Sept. 14,1990 meeting, the State Bar of Wisconsin's Board of Governors approved a process to petition the Wisconsin Supreme Court on the State Bar's status. One committee was to present a petition for reinstitution of the State Bar as a mandatory organization; the second, this committee, was to present a petition for making permanent the present status of the State Bar of Wisconsin as a voluntary organization. Based on its review of the issue's background and the present state of the law, this committee concludes that the case for making the voluntary bar permanent in Wisconsin is overwhelming.
